Experience the best of Park City

In the Wasatch Mountains of Utah, east of Salt Lake City, Park City sits at about 2,100 metres. It began as a silver-mining camp in the 1860s, and the miners' wooden and brick buildings still line Main Street, now with galleries, restaurants and bars. The Egyptian Theatre of 1926 and the Park City Museum, in the old city hall and jail, recall that history.

Park City Mountain, among the largest ski areas in the United States, and Deer Valley share the slopes above town, which in summer are crossed by hiking and mountain-bike trails. The Utah Olympic Park, built for the 2002 Winter Games, still has ski jumps and a bobsled track. Jordanelle Reservoir offers boating, and Soldier Hollow, the cross-country site of the Olympics, lies in the Heber Valley, with a heritage railway.

Elk, bison and trout appear on restaurant menus, along with Utah scones, fried dough served with honey butter, and fry sauce, a pink dip for fries. Skiing runs from late autumn into April, summers are cool and sunny, and aspen leaves turn gold in September.
