Experience the best of Kennebunkport

Kennebunkport lies on the southern coast of Maine, where the Kennebunk River runs into the Atlantic past wooden docks and a tidy village square. Shipbuilding once made the town rich, and the sea captains' houses and nineteenth-century summer hotels still line the lanes. Ocean Avenue winds along the rocky shore to Walker's Point, the summer home of the Bush family, which can be seen from the road.

Dock Square is the centre of shops and galleries, and Cape Porpoise, a working lobster harbour, lies a few kilometres up the coast. Goose Rocks Beach is a long sweep of sand to the north, and the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge protects salt marshes and shoreline along this stretch of coast. Portland lies to the north-east, and Ogunquit and its cliff path to the south-west.

Lobster rolls and clam chowder come with fried clams and whoopie pies, and blueberry pie turns up often. Summer fills the lanes with visitors, and the village is quietest on a crisp autumn day.
