Experience the best of Jersey City

Jersey City faces Lower Manhattan across the Hudson, a New Jersey waterfront city of towers, ferries to the Statue of Liberty and varied neighbourhoods.

Jersey City stands on the west bank of the Hudson River opposite Lower Manhattan, and is New Jersey's second-largest city. Its waterfront has a walkway lined with office towers and apartments facing the Manhattan skyline, while commuter trains link it to New York in minutes. Liberty State Park, on the harbour, has wide lawns and views of the Statue of Liberty, and ferries leave from the park for Liberty Island and Ellis Island.

The Central Railroad of New Jersey Terminal, a grand brick station in the park, once sent immigrants on to the rest of the country. Hamilton Park has rows of Victorian houses, and Grove Street is a pedestrian plaza with cafés. Journal Square holds the ornate Loew's Jersey Theatre, a 1929 movie palace, and Newark Avenue is a centre of the city's Indian community, while Filipino, Egyptian and Latin American communities add to its variety.

That variety shows up in the food: Indian thalis, Filipino bakeries, Egyptian cafés and pizzerias, with diners serving breakfast all day. Hudson River views at sunset are a local ritual. The seasons are distinct, with humid summers, colourful autumns and cold, sometimes snowy winters.
