Greenville lies in the Upstate of South Carolina, at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Falls Park on the Reedy River sits in the middle of downtown, with a waterfall and the Liberty Bridge, a curved pedestrian suspension bridge, and the tree-lined Main Street nearby has small bronze mice hidden along it for children to find.

The Swamp Rabbit Trail, a former railway line, runs north to Travelers Rest for walking and cycling. The Greenville County Museum of Art has a large collection of work by Andrew Wyeth. Table Rock State Park, with a granite dome, and Caesars Head State Park, with a high overlook and waterfall trails, lie to the north-west, and Asheville lies beyond the mountains in North Carolina.

Shrimp and grits, fried chicken, barbecue with mustard sauce, boiled peanuts and peach desserts are the Southern staples, and the town has a strong craft-beer scene. Dogwoods bloom in spring, the foothills turn red and gold in October and November, summers are hot and humid, and winters are mild.
