Experience the best of El Paso

El Paso lies in the far west of Texas, where Texas, New Mexico and the Mexican state of Chihuahua meet, on the Rio Grande opposite Ciudad Juárez. The Franklin Mountains rise inside the city, and Franklin Mountains State Park, one of the largest urban parks in the United States, has desert trails and views over the border. Downtown has the Plaza Theatre, a 1930 movie palace, and the old San Jacinto Plaza.

The Mission Trail, to the east, leads to the churches of Ysleta, Socorro and San Elizario, among the oldest in Texas. Hueco Tanks State Park, about 50 kilometres north-east, is a rock-climbing area with ancient painted masks, and Cristo Rey, a statue on a mountain, stands over the border. White Sands National Park in New Mexico lies a couple of hours' drive to the north-east.

Green chile enchiladas, tacos, burritos and chile rellenos are the border cooking of the city, with sopapillas for dessert. The skies are very sunny, with hot summers and mild winters.
