Experience the best of Duck Creek

Duck Creek Village stands well over 2,000 metres up on the Markagunt Plateau, beside the highway that climbs from Cedar City through the Dixie National Forest and drops east towards US Highway 89. Cabins and campsites sit among aspen, spruce and open meadows, and the cool, thin air feels a world away from the red-rock desert below.

Navajo Lake, a shallow lake held back by an old lava flow and ringed by forest, lies about a dozen kilometres to the west, and Cedar Breaks National Monument, a vast amphitheatre of eroded pink and orange rock, drops away from the plateau rim farther on. Zion National Park lies to the south-west and Bryce Canyon to the east.

Winter turns the plateau into snowmobiling and snowshoeing country, with deep powder lasting for months, while summer brings campers, anglers and riders on the forest tracks. Wildflowers bloom in the meadows in July, and the aspens turn gold in late September.
