Experience the best of Denver

Denver, the Mile High City, is Colorado's capital on the plains at the foot of the Rocky Mountains, with museums, breweries and the Red Rocks amphitheatre.

Denver stands one mile above sea level on the high plains, with the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains filling the western horizon. It began as a gold-rush town in 1858 and grew with railways and mining. Union Station, a restored rail hall, anchors the lower downtown, and the Colorado State Capitol has a step on its west side marked as one mile above sea level.

The Denver Art Museum, with its angular titanium wing by Daniel Libeskind, and the Denver Botanic Gardens are cultural highlights, and Larimer Square keeps some of the oldest buildings. Red Rocks, a natural amphitheatre of sandstone slabs west of the city, is a famous concert venue. Boulder and the Flatirons, Rocky Mountain National Park, and the ski resorts of the Rockies are within one or two hours.

Green chile smothered over burritos is the local favourite, alongside bison burgers, Rocky Mountain trout and Palisade peaches in summer. Denver has long been a brewing city, and the Great American Beer Festival is held here each autumn. Snow can fall suddenly in winter and melt away again under the sun.
