Diana was a great guide and very knowledgeable . She kept the group together and explained that many 3 dimensional objects were actually one dimensional paintings. She made the tour very interesting . restroom breaks when available 5 stars

  • 5Great tour with Henry!

We had a great experience on our Vatican tour! Our guide Henry was extremely knowledgeable and did an excellent job making the tour engaging and interactive with the entire group. He explained everything in a way that was easy to understand and made the experience even more enjoyable. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the Vatican!

  • 3Might consider only the basilica without the museum...

About the Vatican Museum: There were A LOT of people, so skip-the-line was the best choice we made for this tour. However, we still started about 20 minutes late for all the chaos that was the main entrance. In general, it really felt like we were pushed through the museum rather than had a visit. In hindsight, we would book ONLY the visit to the St. Peter Basilica and not the museum (although there was a lot of stunning art to see...) About the tour guide: He was very friendly and knowledgable and clearly was trying to do his best with the amount of tours and visitors around us. With this amount of artwork to see, we would expect a guide to provide us with a framework, story or theme to help us with the experience (even if it does not cover everything- which is impossible). Our guide was providing us with bits and pieces, anecdotes and fast information about random works around us but was unsuccessful in keeping a cohesive framework for the tour unfortunately.

  • 1Complete scam, stay away! Misleading itinerary, no advance notice, and refund promise not honored

We were informed only at the start of the tour that St. Peter's Basilica, which was explicitly advertised as part of the itinerary, would not be included. We were told that the closure had only become known at the last minute. However, the event responsible for the closure had been publicly announced at least a week earlier, making this explanation difficult to believe. The closure was not prominently communicated on the Basilica's official website, so ordinary tourists had little reason to anticipate it. I booked this tour specifically because it included expedited entry into St. Peter's Basilica, where queues can otherwise take hours. Crown Tours claimed to have asked Viator and other booking platforms to notify customers of the itinerary change, but I received no advance notice whatsoever. Given this material change to the advertised itinerary, I declined to participate and instead rebooked the tour for another day, paying again out of pocket. Josh, at the Crown Tours Vatican reception, assured me that I would receive a refund for the original tour and directed me to Viator. Yet Viator has now informed me that Crown Tours authorized a refund of less than 15% of the booking price for a tour I never participated in. I'm still awaiting a full refund. It's extremely disappointing that a company would fail to communicate a known itinerary change, promise a refund in person, and then authorize only a fraction of the amount paid.

About Rome

Rome layers nearly three thousand years of history into one walkable city, from the Colosseum and Forum to Baroque piazzas and Vatican art.

Ancient Rome is still in plain sight. The Colosseum, the Roman Forum and the Palatine Hill sit together at the city's heart, the Pantheon still stands with its open oculus, and fragments of temples and aqueducts turn up between apartment blocks. Across the Tiber, Vatican City holds St Peter's Basilica, the Vatican Museums and Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel ceiling.

Top-ranked sights in Rome: Colosseum, Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel.
