Highlights

We will visit the largest colony of the Magellanic penguin in all of South America. From September through April, Punta Tombo hosts approximately one million penguins that arrive to complete their breeding cycle and the molting (change feathers). Other specimens of guanacos, Patagonian hares, and other terrestrial fauna complete the scene; In addition, they will have a privileged view of the Atlantic Ocean coast. As long as the time allows, upon returning from the reserve we will give you a city tour of Puerto Madryn before dropping you off at the dock exit. • 4Go in Sept-Oct

If we had traveled in September-October at the start of the season, I would give this a five star review, but we were there at the end of the season in March. Instead of seeing thousands of Magellanic penguins, we saw maybe 100, very close up which was neat. And the area is beautiful. But it’s a 2 1/2 hour drive from Puerto Madryn. I don’t know if we would have done it if we knew how few penguins were left. Thankfully, we were the first tour group of the day and had the place to ourselves for quite a while. Definite good fortune as it got very crowded later. Our tour guide and driver were both very good. They gave us a quick drive through downtown to show us where the highlights are and took us to the cave memorial. Very much appreciated!

Small group, small vehicle. Frequent rest stops on this long drive from the port. Guide and driver were excellent with communicating the nature observed during the trip. Penguins were during the moulting season and were easy to observe from a boardwalk at the park. Up close with Magellanic penguins. Small cafe and shop at the park.

  • 5Lovely day to see the penguins.

Great communication with vendor who was able to adjust the tour schedule when our ship changed day of arrival in port. Marina our guide and our terrific driver delivered us safely to and from the penguin habitat. We learned not only about the wild life but also about life in Puerto Madryn in years past and now. Really appreciated the early pickup that enabled us to tour the reserve at our leisure before the buses arrived. Well worth the long drive; probably even more spectacular earlier in the year. Highly recommend!!!

  • 5The administrative...

The administrative department of this company provided excellent communication, even with a date change. Our tour was well run with Pablo as our driver and Hugo as our guide. Hugo gave us lots of information and answered the questions we had. The penguins were so fun to see up close and there were lots of them. We had a fantastic time!

Trip to Punta Tombo to see the Megellanic penguins with a stop at dinosaur sculpture. While the drive was long, the tour guide Marianna made the trip enjoyable with information about the area, its history and and animal life.

  • 5Great day trip to Punta tombo.

We had a very nice tour with Max. He drove us to Punta tombo from puerto Madryn to see Magellan penguins. He was very pleasant and knowledgeable about the area and a safe driver.

About Puerto Madryn

Puerto Madryn is a Patagonian port on a wide, sheltered gulf, and the starting point for whale watching and for penguin and sea lion colonies.

Puerto Madryn faces the calm Golfo Nuevo on the Atlantic coast of Chubut province, a seaside town of broad beaches and a long waterfront promenade. Welsh settlers landed on this shore in 1865, and the valley towns of Gaiman and Trelew to the south still keep that heritage. The town itself is small and relaxed, with diving, sailing and sea views drawing most people outdoors.
