At this point the most exciting part of the route begins, being able to walk among penguins, along a 1,5-kilometer path that begins in the Patagonian steppe field until you reach the coast area where the penguins arrive from the sea to the continent to recondition its nests every year and fulfill its cycle of breeding and breeding of its pigeons. You can see the vastness of the colony, full of nests everywhere. It is a unique experience in the world that few are lucky to live. It is worth mentioning that the penguins cohabit quietly with small rodents, the cuisines, and receive the sporadic visit of guanacos and choiques. Once the tour of the reservation is finished, we begin the return to the city.

By early March many of the penguins are molting and many must have started leaving so no big colony. Long bus ride but good tour leader Tina.

  • 5Great trip, great guide and spectacular penguins

What made this excursion so special was our guide, Mariana. She was one of the best guides I have ever had on a shore excursion and I have done over 50 cruises! She engaged us the entire way (a 2 ½ hour trip) with information on the area and on Punta Tomba. Once you get to Punta Tomba you are on your own to wander the area. The lunch was excellent. On the way home she was telling us about the cherries that grow in the region. She was able to stop at a local stand and buy some for the bus! Highly recommend the trip.

  • 4Great tour guide!

Tour guide was knowledgeable, friendly, informative and answered all our questions. She made the long trip to apunta Tombo very interesting. The bus was VERY uncomfortable. The seat in front of me was broken and I had little space. Men had to stretch their feet down the aisle as even working seats were way too close. In spite of the discomfort she managed to make it fun and interesting! Box lunch was good and they offered water when first entering the bus.

  • 5Wonderful penguin experience

This was great. We were fortunate that the weather was great, the many, many penguins were out and about. We also saw many guanaco, Rhea and flamingos. Our guide and driver were great. The lunch was good and we even had a short drive through town as we made good time returning. Highly recommend

About Puerto Madryn

Puerto Madryn is a Patagonian port on a wide, sheltered gulf, and the starting point for whale watching and for penguin and sea lion colonies.

Puerto Madryn faces the calm Golfo Nuevo on the Atlantic coast of Chubut province, a seaside town of broad beaches and a long waterfront promenade. Welsh settlers landed on this shore in 1865, and the valley towns of Gaiman and Trelew to the south still keep that heritage. The town itself is small and relaxed, with diving, sailing and sea views drawing most people outdoors.
