About Modena
Modena is an Emilian city of cathedral and tower, balsamic vinegar, tortellini and fast cars, in the flat country between Bologna and Parma.
Modena's centre is a World Heritage Site: the Romanesque cathedral, carved with scenes by the sculptor Wiligelmo, the Ghirlandina tower beside it and the Piazza Grande together form one of Italy's finest medieval ensembles. Arcaded streets lead to the Ducal Palace, built for the Este family when they moved their court from Ferrara in the late sixteenth century, and the Estense Gallery holds their art collection.
