Itinerary
Your ecoTekk guide meets you at the eastern car park near the tennis courts for a 20-minute safety briefing and e-Bike fitting before you set off. The showgrounds sit on Obi Obi Creek, the traditional lands of the Jinibara people, and host the historic Maleny Agricultural Show each year — a great spot to get a feel for this hinterland dairy town before you ride.
Glide along the shaded path beside Obi Obi Creek and through Maleny Commons, where the rainforest canopy opens onto glimpses of the creek below. This gentle, mostly flat stretch is the perfect spot to settle into your e-Bike's pedal-assist and soak up the cool hinterland air before the climb ahead.
Pull off the trail at a quiet platypus viewing platform overlooking Obi Obi Creek. Early morning and late afternoon give you the best chance of spotting one of these shy, elusive monotremes feeding in the shallows — keep your eyes on the water and your voice low, and your guide will point out the telltale ripples.
Climb to a roadside lookout along Mountain View Road for sweeping views across the hinterland to the volcanic peaks of the Glass House Mountains — Tibrogargan, Beerwah, Coonowrin and their neighbours, sacred to the Jinibara and Gubbi Gubbi peoples. Your e-Bike's pedal-assist makes light work of the climb, so you arrive ready to take in the view rather than catch your breath.
Rest your legs and wander the boardwalk through 55 hectares of remnant subtropical rainforest, home to ancient strangler figs, brush turkeys and — if you're lucky — a shy koala dozing overhead. Finish with a well-earned coffee at the reserve's café, looking out over the Glass House Mountains from the hinterland's edge.
