Here, you will have a pizza lunch, paired with wine tastings. The Four Winds Story began with a miner and his wife who lived on the property in a slab-hut. Her name was Scheherazade, after the story telling character in The Arabian Nights. Her favourite story described a magic carpet being borne by the four winds of good fortune. She named this small farm in Murrumbateman ‘Four Winds’ in the hope it would carry their good fortunes. Four Winds planted their thirty-three acre vineyard in 1998 and 1999 with five varieties: Shiraz, Riesling, Cabernet, Merlot and Sangiovese.
Among the wines sampled will be the people-pleasing Shaw Wines Estate Sparkling Cuvee. Max Crus, January 2023: Shaw Wines Canberra Sparkling Cuvée 2021… quite sharp and bright...the ideal thing with which to celebrate the change of pace … suck it up. 9.3/10. Shaw Wines is a family-owned and operated business located in Murrumbateman NSW, the heart of the Canberra cool-climate wine region. The Shaw Family first moved to Murrumbateman over 30 years ago, and in 1998 purchased “Olleyville” the historic 700-acre fine wool producing property dating back to the mid 19th century.
Many wines to sample + friendly doggos Mollie (Husky/Kelpie cross) is usually at cellar door to greet visitors and supervise the staff. She has her own wine label so if she’s not at cellar door, she may be in the winery supervising the next vintage. Being a recuse dog herself, Mollie is proud that the two dog labelled wines support the ACT RSPCA. True to the cool climate region of NSW and Canberra, Murrumbateman Winery makes outstanding and award-winning Riesling and Shiraz. Winemaker Bobbie Makin also has a passion for alternate varieties and enjoys crafting a selection of wines including: Fume Blanc, Malbec, Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo. Murrumbateman Winery is a small boutique winery producing high quality, award winning wines from locally sourced, handpicked grapes.
Worked hard to create a new look label that shows both where our wines began and where we are going. The Royal Bluebell, now in gold, reminds us of Jeir Creek Wines’ rich history. As the floral emblem for the ACT, it also continues our strong connection to Canberra. The rest is us, modern, yet classic. Tradition and history are as important to us as modernization and quality. We hope you agree that our new look brings these values together. You will continue to see some of our old labels on our older vintages until sold out.

5Great day out in Murrumbateman
Great day out! Highly recommend! Met a fun group of people and went to a variety of vineyards to get a full experience. Lunch of woodfired pizzas was amazing!
11 star, out of 1000
We booked what was advertised as a private winery tour, but as soon as we hopped on the bus it was already full of other people. We had specifically chosen a tour of the Murrumbateman wineries, but instead were taken around Lake George with no explanation or option given. We were also told there would be an esky on board with cold refreshments. Instead, the esky was full of old, sticky drinks left over from previous tours, all warm and completely unappealing. The bus itself was uncomfortable with barely working air conditioning, making the whole experience even worse. Overall, it was nothing like what we paid for and definitely not a tour I’d recommend.
5Great day out!
Bishoy was interactive with his guests on the tour, very happy chappy. We had cheeses, chocolates, olives, crackers, yummy pizza and of course wine. It was great to venture to different styles of wineries 🍷 Bishoy created a atmosphere that got all people interacting with each other. Well done Bishoy.
5A capital region highlight
A fabulous tour of 5 wineries, within 45 minutes of Canberra, including large and sophisticated venues, and non- public facing character-laden boutique “we-do-it-all’ operations. It’s no longer a secret that the Canberra region produces some of our finest wines and the lovely Bishoy provides the perfect showcase. Whether you’re a visitor or a local, it’s a day enjoying Canberra’s verdant countryside. Their delicious wines, and the characters involved in their production, make #MerryHeart a must do on your list of things to see in the nation’s capital.
5All around positives!
Fantastic variety!! Lovely wines and food, with great opportunities for socialising and photos. The last venue’s mulled win was particularly memorable.
4Great overall experience....
Great overall experience. The wineries were all very welcoming, the wine was abundant and good company! Lunch was in a pub, and you can choose the main beforehand. The bus is on the older side, and there was no hint on stopping at the best lookouts in Murrumbateman, as suggested by the tour description nor much of a commentary during the drive. But overall I would book it again

About Canberra
Canberra is Australia's planned capital, a city of lakes, wide avenues, national museums and bushland hills in the Australian Capital Territory.
Canberra was designed in the early twentieth century by the American architects Walter Burley Griffin and Marion Mahony Griffin, who arranged it around an artificial lake that carries his name. Parliament House, opened in 1988, sits on Capital Hill under a lawn-covered roof, while Old Parliament House, further down the same axis, is now a museum of Australian democracy. The Australian War Memorial, with its domed Hall of Memory, stands at the head of Anzac Parade.
