About Everglades National Park

Everglades National Park protects the southern tip of Florida's great river of grass, a wetland of sawgrass, mangroves, alligators and wading birds.

Everglades National Park covers the southern end of the Florida peninsula, the largest protected part of the Everglades, a shallow river of grass that flows slowly south to Florida Bay. Sawgrass marsh, hardwood hammocks, pinelands, cypress swamp and a tangled mangrove coast make up the landscape. The park was dedicated in 1947 and is also a World Heritage Site.
