5Great Gympie steam train trip
Did the VIP Booth Experience with lunch. It cost around $150 Australian. Trip started at 9am, with boarding from 8.40am. Trip goes for 3 hours. We started with breakfast at the Rusty Nails Cafe at the Station. Live piano music was a nice touch. Lovely Trip to Amamoor village, with a tasting plate that was very nice and water included. The helpful guide took our alcohol orders and made sure we were comfortable. Market at Amamoor had local crafts and a busy Cafe. 2 course lunch and included wine/beer was great!
5The Mary Valley Rattler Steam Train
What an amazing experience! The Mary Valley Rattler VIP Booth exceeded all our expectations. Everything was run so professionally by the wonderful volunteers, whose passion and hospitality made the day even more special. The sound and smell of the steam train created such a nostalgic experience, and the charming town of Amamoor was the perfect stop. The lunch was absolutely delicious—the slow-cooked beef short rib was tender and full of flavour, and the chocolate three-ways dessert was the perfect finish. A memorable day out that I'd highly recommend to anyone looking for a unique Queensland experience!
5Incredible family day
We travelled from the UK to visit our immediate family who live Maroochydore. It took us an hour by car to the train experience, a straightforward journey & easy to find Fabulous day We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The staff are really nice. There was lots of time to take pictures of the Rattler before boarding. We booked a VIP booth as we had our new Grandson with us. Great views from our roomy booth. With a tasty platter of cheese/ meats dips & treats. With a bottle of water each upon arrival in our carriage. Which was really tasty & we had a soft drink each during the journey, which there was a good selection on offer The scenic journey was really lovely & was narrated with the history of each area we passed through. Which was really interesting. We arrived in Ammamore & the train was turned with aplomb & the turntable which was really enjoyable to see & lots of photo opportunities once again Ammamore is really pretty. The green where we stopped had a nice cafe with a musician playing/ singing on his acoustic guitar really well & the food & drink on offer at the cafe was really extensive & well done. The green had a handful of locals selling things they had made which was a nice touch. The stop there was around an hour. Which was just enough & then we returned to the train for our return journey to Gympie. Our volunteer/ server to our carriage "Tess" was such a lovely person. Helpful. Funny & kind & really went the extra mile to add sparkle to our family day out. We arrived back in Gympie , & headed for the Rusty rails café. I was really surprised at the excellent quality of our two course meal there We had the short rib of beef with creamy mashed potatoes & broccoli. & The vegetarian options was a really tasty curry & rice. Chocolate desserts & passion fruit bomb followed .The staff were really helpful & friendly & service was really good. An excellent day of with lovely friendly staff. Really well organised & run very smoothly. We would definitely recommend. It's worth every single penny without a doubt. A job very well done guys!!
4Fabulous experience
A delightful experience, the VIP car was comfortable, great views, scenery, information and the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. The on board snacks were delicious. The lunch at The Rusty Rail cafe was so good, restaurant quality. A fabulous day out.
5High tea on the Rattler
The high tea was substantial and delicious. Relaxed, helpful staff. Bring some cash for the 30 minute stopover. Crafts, musicians and a wine and cheese sampling option.
5Mary Valley Rattler (relaxer)
Started the day with a warm welcome before meeting our cabin steward Ralph who answered any questions and checked in often throughout the journey to Amamoor. Weather was beautiful and the service second to none. Lovely time spent in Amamoor before watching the engine on the spinning platform to join up to the other end of the train. Thoroughly enjoyed our time on the train. Lunch of lamb shanks with mash and veggies and desert of caramel cookie cake and ice cream was the icing on top. Highly recommend this for a relaxing day trip.

About Hervey Bay
Hervey Bay is a relaxed seaside town on Queensland's Fraser Coast, with calm water, a long pier, visiting humpback whales and ferries to Fraser Island.
Hervey Bay is a string of beach suburbs, Pialba, Scarness, Torquay and Urangan, facing a wide, sheltered bay that Fraser Island shields from the open Pacific. A paved esplanade runs for kilometres along the shore, with parks, cafés and a cycle path, and at Urangan the long timber pier reaches far out over the shallows, an old cargo wharf now used by anglers and walkers.
