4Looking for the toucan
Our guide Johnny was friendly and very knowledgeable about the area and the birds. It was very windy the morning we went so the birds were scarce. We did spot a quetzal and a few other birds. The hummingbirds were beautiful. I gave a 4 rating as I really wanted to see a toucan. The reserve is beautiful.
5Great guide and fun experience
Tio was a great guide! Very knowledgeable about the history of monteverde and the animals and birds. We saw so much more than we planned for- sloth, viper, agoutis. He also helped us get some amazing photos through the scope.
5Had a great time with Olger
We toured with Olger Villegas and he was amazing! Very funny and very informative. We saw pit vipers, toucan nests, humming birds and many other birds. Would highly recommend!
5Great experience
Wonderful experience! Olger was very knowledgeable and kind! He took his time teaching us about the animals in curicancha and the history of CR.
5Amazing birdwatching experience with Johnny!
We had an excellent experience at Curicancha Reserve with our guide, Johnny. Our main goal was to see the famous Bellbird (Pájaro Campana), and Johnny did everything possible to help us find it — and we finally did! He was incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and passionate about birds and wildlife. He also helped us spot and identify many other bird species, assisted us with photos through the scope, and made the entire walk both fun and informative. Johnny’s attitude was outstanding: very kind, professional, and always willing to help. Highly recommended if you visit Monteverde and want a great birdwatching experience.
5Our guide is...
Our guide is knowledgeable and observant, with a lot of experience. With him, we saw many tropical birds. The one that impressed us the most was a three-wattled bellbird, which I had never seen before.

About Monteverde
Monteverde is a mountain community in Costa Rica's cloud forest, known for misty reserves, hanging bridges, birdlife and coffee farms.
Monteverde is a scattering of farms and small villages on the Tilarán Mountains, around 1,400 metres up, where moist winds from the Caribbean wrap the ridge in cloud. Quaker families from the United States settled here in the 1950s and began dairy farming, and they helped protect the forest above. The Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve and the neighbouring Santa Elena Reserve preserve mossy trees, ferns, orchids and hanging vines.
Top-ranked sights in Monteverde: Curi-Cancha Reserve, Selvatura Park, Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve (Reserva Bosque Nuboso Santa Elena).
