Itinerary

  1. As part of your tour through Haarlem, you'll visit Kenaupark, a serene green space that holds a deep connection to the Dutch resistance. At the heart of the park, we’ll stop by the monument to Hannie Schaft, known as “the Girl with the Red Hair.” Hannie was a courageous young woman who became a symbol of resistance against Nazi occupation. She operated in and around Haarlem, and her story—marked by bravery, sacrifice, and betrayal—is one of the most poignant of the war. Here, under the shade of old trees and surrounded by 19th-century architecture, you'll hear how ordinary Dutch citizens became extraordinary heroes. We’ll share stories of espionage, sabotage, and the underground networks that helped hide Jewish families and resist occupation. Beyond the memorial, you’ll have time to reflect, take photos, and absorb the peacefulness of the park—a striking contrast to the turbulent history we explore.

  • 5Manuel was great!

Absolutely wonderful experience and one of the highlights of our time in Haarlem. The tour brought the story of Corrie ten Boom and the history of Haarlem during World War II to life in a really personal and meaningful way. Manuel was incredibly knowledgeable and a fantastic storyteller. It wasn’t just a list of historical facts, but a fascinating story connected to the actual places around Haarlem, which made everything much more memorable.

  • 3Wasn’t what I expected.

The tour was two hours plus but only a third or less was about the Corrie Ten Boom story. Wasn’t what I expected.

  • 2Boring

The tour guide was uninteresting and not very informative. We visited sites that were not interesting at all (the jail, Alms houses, train station.) Very little of the tour was about Corrie Ten Boom. The tour also went about 45 minutes over time:

About Haarlem

Haarlem is a compact historic city west of Amsterdam, with a Gothic church on its market square, Frans Hals paintings and almshouse courtyards.

Haarlem is the capital of North Holland, a canal-lined city of gabled houses on the River Spaarne, a short train ride west of Amsterdam. The Grote Markt is its large market square, framed by the Gothic church of St Bavo, whose great organ was played by the young Mozart in 1766, and by the stately town hall. The painter Frans Hals lived and worked here, and the Frans Hals Museum displays his group portraits.
