Highlights
You have probably heard, ''Don't go to a favela, it's dangerous". This phrase is based on prejudice. Would you like to experience a favela, real and raw? Come with me on a free walking tour of Rocinha, the largest favela in Latin America, and learn what life is like here. You will walk through the neighborhood while your guide tells the story of the community and how it has developed, from the beginning to today. Following the same paths, the locals walk every day, you will experience the scenes and culture of this vibrant, friendly neighborhood. You will visit a supermarket and other local businesses, and see social projects that benefit the community. You will also see incredible views from the high hilltop and take pictures. You will need to bring money, for donations to community charities, viewpoints, souvenirs, and Moto-taxi.

5Memorable guided tour in Rocinha Favela
We had a guided tour of Rocinha with Carlos, who has lived in the favela for 32 years. He gave us a insight into life in Rocinha and was happy to answer all our questions along the way. As part of the tour, we took organised motorcycle taxis up to the top, which was a really fun and exciting experience. We then walked through the favela and stopped at a rooftop with an incredible view, where we could buy something to drink and use the toilet. We walked back down through the favela to the metro afterward together with Carlos. We felt safe throughout the entire tour and really appreciated the opportunity to see Rocinha and learn more about the community from someone who actually lives there. A very interesting and memorable experience. Highly recommend!
5A real Favela experience
Loved this tour. Aside that we booked this last minute and this the arrangement for the meeting point was chaotic it was very cool. The tour guide Caio was very helpfull and funny. The trip to the top was cool and the rooftop view was the best. Sometimes a bit scary in the Favela but if you behave there is nothing to worry. Would definitely recommend!
5Wonderful Experience
What an incredible and eye-opening experience. Carlos was our guide and is a local of Rocinha. We learned so much from him, and we never felt like our safety was jeopardized. Carlos— thank you for showing us and teaching us about a different side of Rio. Your knowledge and guidance are the reasons why we will recommend you to friends and family.
