from$1,295$1,166
Meet expert aquarist Matt Wilson and join him for a hands-on encounter with the cool, the wet, and the slimy by spending two hours as a member of the aquarium staff. Matt is a professional biologist who has a rare zest for strange and often overlooked creatures like jellyfish that make up so much of our ocean. Practice your observation skills, try your hand at preparing food and feeding animals, or even assist in animal healthcare. Activities will vary based on the real needs of the animals in our aquarium. SAFETY NOTES: Recommended for ages 8 and up. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Sitka is a small island town on Alaska's Pacific coast, once the capital of Russian America, with onion domes, totem poles and a sound ringed by mountains.
Sitka sits on the west coast of Baranof Island in south-east Alaska, facing the Pacific across a sound dotted with islands and overlooked by the volcanic cone of Mount Edgecumbe. It was the capital of Russian America, known as New Archangel, and in 1867 Alaska was formally transferred from Russia to the United States on Castle Hill. The onion-domed St Michael's Cathedral and the Russian Bishop's House, built in 1842, recall that past.
Top-ranked sights in Sitka: Fortress of the Bear, Alaska Raptor Center, Sitka National Historical Park.
