  • 5Aurora is a super guide… so knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the area!

Aurora was a great guide! We learned so much about the city, its history… the fishing industry! We had lots of questions and she has a wonderful background for answering! Give this person a raise!!!

  • 5Good for young families.

Intermediate hike through gorgeous woods. Not too long or short for kids either. Great time. Our guide, Giovanni, was very knowledgeable and a great teacher.

  • 5A breath of fresh air!

Our guide Aurora was fantastic! Easy hike through Tongass National Park. A genuine and literal breath of fresh air away from the tourist town area. A good pair of walking shoes, light sweater or jacket and baseball cap is all you need.

  • 5Sunny Hike in Sitka!

Gio did a fantastic job on our walk near Beaver Lake. He had an impressive knowledge of the secrets in this rainforest. The waterfalls were running strong and beautiful. Gio picked us up in town on short notice rather than at the cruise port. What a glorious summer day in Sitka!

  • 5Fun and Fact-filled Experience

This is a strenuous hike with lots of uneven trail but our guide, Lanie, had us stopping along the way to talk about plants, edible and non- edible berries, local Tlingit tribal lore and other fun and interesting stories. If you normally hike using hiking poles, make sure you bring them.

About Sitka

Sitka is a small island town on Alaska's Pacific coast, once the capital of Russian America, with onion domes, totem poles and a sound ringed by mountains.

Sitka sits on the west coast of Baranof Island in south-east Alaska, facing the Pacific across a sound dotted with islands and overlooked by the volcanic cone of Mount Edgecumbe. It was the capital of Russian America, known as New Archangel, and in 1867 Alaska was formally transferred from Russia to the United States on Castle Hill. The onion-domed St Michael's Cathedral and the Russian Bishop's House, built in 1842, recall that past.

Top-ranked sights in Sitka: Fortress of the Bear, Alaska Raptor Center, Sitka National Historical Park.
