Experience the best of Maragogi

Maragogi lies on the northern coast of Alagoas, near the border with Pernambuco, on a stretch of the north-east shore known as the Costa dos Corais, the Coral Coast. A reef runs parallel to the beach a short way out, which protects the coast from big waves and keeps the water warm, calm and clear. Coconut palms line the sand.

At low tide, natural pools form on the reef at Galés, a few kilometres out, where visitors snorkel among fish after sailing there in jangadas, traditional rafts, or small motorboats. Beaches such as São Bento, Antunes and Peroba are backed by coconut groves. South of town the coast road passes quiet fishing villages such as São Miguel dos Milagres and Porto de Pedras.

Grilled lobster, fish and crab, tapioca pancakes and coconut water are the local pleasures. Maceió, the state capital, lies farther south. The coast is warm all year, with the rains between April and August.
