Experience the best of Auckland
Auckland, New Zealand's largest city, spreads across an isthmus between two harbours, dotted with volcanic cones, beaches and island-studded bays.

The Sky Tower rises above the central city and the waterfront, where the Viaduct Harbour and Wynyard Quarter are lined with restaurants and yachts, fitting Auckland's nickname, the City of Sails. Mount Eden and One Tree Hill, two of the many volcanic cones scattered across the city, give panoramic views.
The Auckland War Memorial Museum in the Domain has outstanding Māori and Pacific collections, and the Auckland Art Gallery holds a major collection of New Zealand art. Ferries cross the harbour to Devonport's Victorian streets and head out into the Hauraki Gulf to Waiheke Island, known for vineyards and beaches, and the volcanic island of Rangitoto. The black-sand surf beaches of Piha and Karekare lie west beyond the forested Waitākere Ranges.
Food draws on the Pacific: fresh seafood, lamb, flat whites and Pacific Island and Asian flavours. Summer, from December to February, is warm and perfect for the water, while winters are mild and wetter. The film-set village of Hobbiton, the geothermal wonders of Rotorua and the glowworm caves of Waitomo are popular trips.
