Itinerary
The Cajón del Maipo is an Andean canyon located in the southeastern part of the Metropolitan Region of Chile. It corresponds to the upper basin of the Maipo River (above 900 meters above sea level), where it is confined by hills, cliffs, and massifs. The area also has a number of tributary rivers such as the Volcán, Yeso, and Colorado rivers, and other streams such as the San Gabriel, Manzanito, Coyanco, Sauce, Manzano, and San José.
The El Yeso Reservoir is an artificial water reservoir created by a dam located in the Andes Mountains. The reservoir is situated at a place called Boca del Valle, 23 km upstream from the confluence of the Yeso and Maipo Rivers at an altitude of 3,000 meters above sea level, in the municipality of San José de Maipo, Cordillera Province, Santiago Metropolitan Region. It was built to ensure a reliable supply of drinking water and irrigation for the area.
The Colina Valley hot springs are thermal springs located in the Santiago Metropolitan Region, used for medicinal purposes. The hot springs are located 109 km from downtown Santiago and at an altitude of 3,500 meters. Their waters, with temperatures ranging from 25 to 55 °C, are recommended for all types of muscle injuries, for improving blood circulation and healing affected areas, for relaxation of body and mind, and for combating depression.
