Table Mountain is one of South Africa’s most iconic natural landmarks, standing proudly over the city of Cape Town. Rising approximately 1,067 meters (3,563 feet) above sea level, it forms a prominent backdrop to Cape Town and offers stunning panoramic views of the city, Table Bay, Robben Island, and the Cape Peninsula. Geologically, Table Mountain is incredibly old—its rocks are estimated to be around 600 million years old, making it one of the oldest mountains in the world. The mountain’s flat summit stretches about 3 kilometers and is often draped in a white cloud layer known as the “tablecloth,” caused by a weather phenomenon involving moist air from the ocean.
