Experience the best of Hazyview

Hazyview lies in the Lowveld of Mpumalanga province, a warm green valley of banana, mango, macadamia and citrus farms beneath the escarpment of the Drakensberg. The Sabie River flows nearby, and the Phabeni entrance gate of Kruger National Park lies a short drive east, which makes the town a base for the park's southern and central areas. Craft stalls along the main road sell wood carvings, beadwork and baskets.

Kruger, one of Africa's largest game reserves, is home to lions, elephants, buffalo, leopards and rhinos, and private reserves such as Sabi Sand share its unfenced western boundary. Up the escarpment to the west, the Panorama Route passes God's Window, Bourke's Luck Potholes and the viewpoints over the Blyde River Canyon, with waterfalls near Sabie and the historic gold-mining village of Pilgrim's Rest.

A braai, the South African barbecue of boerewors sausage, steak and lamb chops, served with pap, a maize porridge, is the usual meal, and biltong, dried spiced meat, is the snack. Fruit stalls sell mangoes and bananas in summer. The dry winter from May to September is best for seeing animals, when the bush is thin and they gather at waterholes, and summers are hot, green and wet.
