It was also the starting point for the 30,000-strong demonstration led by Archbishop Desmond Tutu in 1989 and where Tutu coined the phrase ‘rainbow people’ to describe the diversity of South Africa’s population. The Garden is home to overwhelming famous squirrels, you can purchase a bag of nuts to feed them, one thing kids love is feeding squirrels. The food is to die for as, they serve traditional Capetonian food along with standard lunch, the food is simple but delicious. The Garden is also home to the South African National Gallery, it holds temporary exhibitions by some of the country’s top artists & occasional international artists too. This is a great way to spend a few hours and feed the squirrels, taste the Capetonian food and get to go to an art exhibition at the South African National Gallery.

About Cape Town

Cape Town spreads between Table Mountain and the sea, a striking city of beaches, vineyards, penguins and history near Africa's southwestern tip.

Table Mountain's flat summit looms over everything, reached by cableway or by hiking trails, with Lion's Head and Signal Hill flanking it. Below, the V&A Waterfront bustles around the working harbour, and boats leave from there for Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was held for eighteen years. The colourful houses of Bo-Kaap climb the slopes above the city centre and the Company's Garden.

Top-ranked sights in Cape Town: Boulders Beach, Cape of Good Hope, Chapman’s Peak Drive.
