Itinerary

  1. Considered as "a gift of the Gods", the cacao tree was very important to the ancient culture. It was not only used as a ceremonial drink, but its seeds were also used as currency because of its economic value, in many regions of Mesoamerica, including Costa Rica. In this 2-hour “hands on” program, you'll have the opportunity to learn interesting aspects of cocoa and chocolate, from its origin and history, participating in all the production process, from the harvesting of the fruit, drying and grinding of the seed, also the developing of the traditional drink of our ancestors, and of course enjoying a high quality organic chocolate.

  • 5Informative AND delicious!

We had such a fun time during the rainforest chocolate tour! We booked the 3 PM time and were about 10 minutes late because our morning excursion ran long, but it wasn’t an issue to hop in where they were. Our guide, Roberto, was so fun and knowledgeable about all of the different stages of cacao and walked us through the entire process. We got to participate and make and try different stages of chocolate. At the end we tried spoonfuls of melted chocolate with our choice of a huge variety of toppings (try the cloves/nutmeg/cinnamon combo and the turmeric/pepper/salt!). Total time was two hours and absolutely worth the price. It would be a fun tour for people of any age, including children.

  • 5Keilor made this tour absolutely magical!

Keilor was one of the best tour guides we've ever had! He was super friendly and welcoming, and his dry sense of humor had us absolutely cracking up the entire time while still being genuinely interesting and informative. His group-handling skills were excellent and he made everything about the tour and chocolate-making demonstration fun for the kids and adults at the same time. My daughter is very shy, yet he somehow found a way to make her embrace being our "team leader" and even do a "cacao bean crushing dance" in front of a group of 15 strangers! She told us afterward that he reassured her that she didn't have to do it if she didn't want to, and that he would dance alongside her to help with her shyness. I can't recommend this place (and Keilor) enough! Stop reading this review and book this tour!
