Itinerary
Meet our guide in Parma and head on to visit an authentic producer of Parmigiano-Reggiano PDO: you’ll discover how the King of all cheeses has been literally made by hand in the same way since the Benedictine monks invented it 10 centuries ago! From the curdling into the typical copper heaters to the salting and the final ageing in the so-called wheel cathedrals, you will be a privileged witness of almost all the steps of production of this out-and-out food icon. Tasting at the end.
Guided visit with final tasting at one of the local family-run ham factories producing the mythical Prosciutto di Parma PDO: you will get to know why the best ham can only be made in the hills of Parma, where the marino wind blows from the Ligurian Sea through the river valley.
Full lunch based on the typical products of the area: Prosciutto as well as other kind of local cold cuts, a typical stuffed pasta dish (tortelli di Parma), homemade cakes. All paired up with local wines like Lambrusco and Malvasia!
Guided visit & tasting at a family-run production of Traditional Balsamic Vinegar PDO (visit performed by the producer)

5Top Chef level food tour experience
This was an absolutely amazing experience and truly one of the highlights of our trip! I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Bologna, especially if you appreciate good food and want to experience the traditions behind some of the region’s most famous products. We opted to include hotel pickup, which made the experience incredibly convenient, especially with our larger group. Throughout the tour, we visited family-run producers specializing in Parmigiano Reggiano, Prosciutto di Parma, and traditional balsamic vinegar. It was fascinating to see firsthand how these iconic foods are made and to learn about the time, care, and tradition that go into each one. Our tour guide, Monica, was wonderful—knowledgeable, personable, and genuinely passionate about the food and producers we visited. One of my favorite parts of the experience was seeing how much pride each family takes in their product and business. These are traditions that have often been passed down through generations, and that passion and dedication really came through during each visit. And, of course, there were plenty of delicious samples at every stop! We were able to taste the products throughout the tour, which made the experience both educational and incredibly enjoyable. This was so much more than a food tour—it was an opportunity to experience the culture, traditions, and people behind some of Emilia-Romagna’s most beloved foods. A wonderful and memorable experience that I would absolutely recommend!
5Loved our tour!
We loved our private tour with Giacamo. He was such a wealth of knowledge and so kind. We learned so much about each of the factories and the food produced there. Plus, the tastings and lunch were delicious. Would recommend!!
5Vacation highlight in Parma
We enjoyed a great day! The driver was prompt and friendly. Our guide was amazing! She took us to local factories for Parmesan and Prosciutto followed by a wonderful lunch. Two of our party are gluten free and they were able to accommodate without issues. Our last stop at a family run balsamic maker was special.
5Gastronomical Delight in Parma
Excellent tour of cheese making facility, ham curing plant and balsamic vinegar producer. We learned a great deal about the importance of these key products and their significance in the local culture.
5Marvelous experience
Being a part of a learning experience and actual footage of production of this king of all foods. Parmigiano reggiano cheese, prosciutto and balsamic vinegar. Immersive and exciting.
5Great day.
May not be handicap accessible so please double check. Driver was right on time to pick us up in the morning. Seeing how the Parmigiana was made was fascinating for a “cheese nerd”. The Parma ham producer was top notch and I had no idea how labor intensive it is to produce. The balsamic vinegar producer was also top notch. Our driver and guides’ English were great and they were very informative of the various productions and products. My wife and I really enjoyed the day.

About Bologna
Bologna, capital of Emilia-Romagna, is a red-roofed university city of arcaded streets, leaning towers and some of Italy's richest food.
Bologna has a university founded in 1088, one of the oldest in Europe, and students fill the medieval centre. Miles of porticoes shelter the streets, and Piazza Maggiore is the main square, with the Basilica of San Petronio and the Fountain of Neptune. Two leaning brick towers, Asinelli and Garisenda, rise from the old crossroads, and the Asinelli can be climbed.
Top-ranked sights in Bologna: San Petronio Basilica (Basilica di San Petronio), Bologna Piazza Maggiore, Two Towers (Due Torri).
