Wander the site, marvel at the ancient limestone columns still standing today and capture the centuries-old scenery on camera. Continue onward with your guide to the thermal baths, where many of the townsfolk would have bathed, chatted and lived out their daily lives before the eruption. Wander down Via degli Augustali and discover the Lupanare, Pompeii’s brothel. A 2-storey building with five rooms on each floor, the Lupanare is decorated with some of the city’s most lustful frescoes. Your exact route will depend on the crowds and weather conditions.

  • 5Touring Pompeii

It was very interesting and educational. Learned a lot! Our guide did a great job, despite the extreme heat and humidity.

A lot of walking and uneven pavers. Elderly visitors will have to use caution. Difficult to understand tour leader.

  • 3Pompeii - Not to be Missed

The instructions for the meeting place should include, not only "outside the cruise terminal", but also something like "between the two columns / guard stations". "Outside the cruise terminal" is too broad; there are too many people out there. The tour guide was late, and it was hard to know for certain we were in the right place. And if you are trying to find someone, it would also help to have the person wearing easy-to-identify clothing. It is never good to start the tour frustrated because one cannot find the tour guide. The tour guide was not easy to understand. While we appreciate English is not the first language, the tour guide (an older man, Italian native) did not engage the tour group. It was "here is this, and here is that" and then left us to see and after everyone saw it, he moved on to the next location. He did not offer enough free time, nor did he wait for us nor let us see inside the "museum", nor wait for us (nor show us) the restrooms. This was at the end of the tour. All he had to do is to make sure everyone was together. The impression I got was he could not get this over soon enough. The group needs to be smaller. Too many of us per tour guide. Not good customer interaction / support.

About Naples

Passionate and chaotic beneath Vesuvius, Naples is the birthplace of pizza and the gateway to Pompeii, Capri and the Amalfi Coast.

The historic centre, a dense grid of streets laid out by the ancient Greeks, is a world of churches, street shrines and laundry strung between balconies. Spaccanapoli cuts straight through it, Via San Gregorio Armeno is lined with nativity-scene workshops, and the Sansevero Chapel holds the astonishing Veiled Christ. Underground, tunnels and cisterns reveal the Greek and Roman city below.

Top-ranked sights in Naples: Mt. Vesuvius (Monte Vesuvio), Via dei Tribunali, Naples Historic Center (Napoli Centro Storico).
