You’ll get up close to the action and spend unforgettable one-on-one time with our artists, learning about the jade carving process and watching live carving demonstrations. As you embark on a journey into the rich history of pounamu, you’ll discover fascinating insights into the cultural significance of the stone and its traditional uses and values. To top it all off, you will choose your very own piece of pounamu and learn how to string it into a necklace to take home and treasure forever. Available at 10.00 am, daily. About Rotorua
Rotorua is a geothermal city on New Zealand's North Island, with steaming vents, bubbling mud, a lake and a strong Māori culture.
Rotorua sits on the shore of Lake Rotorua in the centre of the North Island, a city built on a volcanic plateau where steam rises from vents in parks and by the roadside and the smell of sulphur hangs in the air. The Te Arawa people have lived here for centuries, and their culture is visible in carved meeting houses, performances and the living village of Whakarewarewa, where residents cook food in natural steam.
Top-ranked sights in Rotorua: Lake Rotorua, Te Puia, Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland.
