  • 5Incredible llama adventure!

We’ve just had the most amazing afternoon trek with our guide, Kevin, and three of his llamas: Harry, Archie and Pegasus. We got to spend lots of time walking these magnificent creatures but also learned lots about llamas and how to encourage them to trust us and not see us as predators, so that they felt comfortable with us leading them too. There were lots of photo opportunities later in the trek when we’d established a rapport with the llamas and they even started humming to each other towards the end! Our 10-year-old was able to have her own llama to lead and had a brilliant time. An unforgettable experience and highly recommend this while you’re in Kaikoura.

  • 5A Great Experience!

We decided to try something different and trekking with the Llamas did not disappoint. Rupert and Hank the Llamas were incredible. Our host was very knowledgeable and passionate. Would highly recommend 🤗

  • 5Give it a go - you will enjoy it.

A very pleasant outing! That day my husband and I were the only ones on the tour so we had a great intimate experience with the owner and our pair of llamas. This llama walk was more fun than I thought it was going to be. It’s really cool to be able to spend quality time with such beasties. The owner was informative about llamas habits and the trees and birds along the road we walked along. I would definitely recommend this experience.

  • 5A great way to spend some time with one of God's creatures.

Kevin the owner of the Llamas was very clear & informative regarding the needs & characteristics of his special creatures, & how to get the best from them, & how to get them, (as fairly nervous creatures who are easily spooked), to feel comfortable with us leading them. My wife was more apprehensive during our initial introduction, Kevin recognised this, & was extra reassuring towards her. If we had more time here, we would have opted for the half day experience.

  • 5Recommend for anyone who wants a peaceful unique experience

Great "taster" experience to get comfortable with the llama. Honestly, I would do this first to get a feel for the Llama and learn about the woodland, then book the longer beaches tour to really experience the Kaikoura area and feel more bonded to the Llama. Animal lovers of all kinds will love this!!! Give Llama trekking a go!!!

  • 5So much fun!

So.much.fun. If you love animals and love learning about them, this will be a great experience for you. The llamas were just so incredible to be so close to. And Kevin was a great teacher, educating us about the animals and how to interact with them successfully so we could have a fun walk. And I really appreciated that the preparation time wasn’t considered part of the hour so we had a full hour to spend with llamas. Thank you for making our first full day in New Zealand a fun one!

About Kaikōura

Kaikōura is a small town on the east coast of the South Island, where mountains meet the sea and whales, dolphins and seals live close to shore.

Kaikōura sits on a peninsula on the east coast of the South Island, with the snow-capped Seaward Kaikōura Range rising almost straight from the shore. The name means meal of crayfish in Māori, and crayfish, or rock lobster, have long been the town's trade. A deep submarine canyon comes close to the coast, so that sperm whales feed offshore all year, and a walkway round the peninsula gives views of seals, seabirds and the mountains.
