  • 5Bergamo delights

A delightful town to visit. Whist the lower town is very modern the upper town which you reach via the funicular is much more interesting. One of the streets is long and narrow and consists of lots of shops selling their wares whilst the buildings are well worth a visit and can be completed with a delicious meal in one of the local restaurants.

  • 5Enjoyed tour as independent option to visit Bergamo

Tour was extremely easy to use. Appreciated the maps to support directions from location to location. Also appreciated the history information. Ate at recommended restaurant for lunch and it did not disappoint!! We took advantage of the free museum and park at the Castello di San Vigilio (accessible by the second funicular). While this is not on the tour, it is 100% worth it and recommend adding it as an option. Thank you for providing this affordable option to see highlights of Citta Alta at your own pace. Highly recommend for people who feel comfortable using maps to navigate stop to stop. Wear comfortable shoes and be prepared to walk up and down given the geography of the city.

  • 5A lovely way to see a gorgeous location.

Even though we have been to Bergamo Citta Alta many times before, this tour gave us lots of information which we did not previously know. The guide was heart warming enthusiastic about his city (quite rightly so) and he delivered his information clearly, authentically and with a sense of humour. I would recommend this tour for sure.

  • 5Great value tour with a charming guide

I bought the digital guide which is very easy to use, you get sent a PIN number a couple of days before you want to use it and you can then launch the guide as often as you would like. You can either read the text that is supplied for each point of interest, or listen to the audio. In the end I actually did the in-person tour with Matteo. He is a charming, entertaining and informative chap! We saw lots of hidden places in Bergamo that we would not have found ourselves, he was also very helpful about which museums etc are worth a visit. He gave us some great food and gelato tips as well - I tried the salted pistachio from Carmen Gelato and it was delicious. I highly recommend the in person or digital tour from Matteo (same content).

About Bergamo

Bergamo is a Lombard city in two halves: a walled upper town on a hill with Venetian ramparts and a modern lower town beneath.

Bergamo's old Città Alta sits on a hill above the plain, ringed by the long Venetian walls, a World Heritage Site, and reached from the lower town by a funicular. Cobbled lanes lead to Piazza Vecchia, a graceful square flanked by the Palazzo della Ragione and the tall Civic Tower, whose bell still rings each night. Just beyond it, the Colleoni Chapel's marble facade and the Romanesque church of Santa Maria Maggiore compete for attention.

Top-ranked sights in Bergamo: Piazza Vecchia, Cattedrale di Bergamo, Rocca di Bergamo.
