Itinerary
Catania represents the starting point but also the end of the tour, because there will be 2 hours of driving time to get in Agrigento, and then 2 hours to come back from Agrigento to your accommodation
Founded as a Greek colony in the 6th century BC, Agrigento became one of the leading cities in the Mediterranean world. His supremacy and pride are demonstrated by the remains of the magnificent Doric temples that dominated the ancient town, much of which still lies under today's fields and orchards. The archaeological area of Agrigento, the Valley of the Temples, the Southern coast of Sicily and the vast territory of the ancient polis, the cliff of the Acropolis of the ancient city, as well as the sacred hill on which stand the main Doric temples and up to the extramural necropolis. The Valley of the Temples, UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997, is certainly the most important testimony of the ancient, classical culture of Sicily. It brings together the temples of gods goddesses as well as the area of the necropolis and sanctuaries outside the walls. The Temple of Castor and Pollux (Dioscuri), the legendary twin brothers, nowadays has only four columns left and has become the symbol of Agrigento, the Temple of Olympian Zeus (Jupiter) built to thank Zeus on the occasion of the Agrigentines' victory over the Carthaginians, in 480 BC, the Temple of Concordia, the Temple of Heracles (Hercules), the Temple of Aesculapius, the Temple of Volcano and the Tomb of Theron and, of course, the Archeological Museum.
**The Regional Archaeological Museum "Pietro Griffo"** in Agrigento is one of Sicily's most important archaeological museums. It displays an extensive collection of artifacts from the ancient Greek city of Akragas, including sculptures, pottery, and inscriptions. The museum offers visitors a fascinating journey through the rich history and culture of ancient Sicily.

About Catania
Catania, on Sicily's east coast, is a black lava-stone city beneath Mount Etna, with a noisy fish market, Baroque squares and a long seafront.
Catania lies at the foot of Mount Etna, the active volcano whose lava reached the city in 1669, and an earthquake in 1693 flattened it. Rebuilt in the eighteenth century in the Baroque style, it uses black lava stone for walls and paving, set against white limestone. The Piazza del Duomo has an elephant of lava stone carrying an obelisk, the cathedral of Sant'Agata, and a fountain.
