  • 5Great intro to Ragusa

Serena gave a great overview of the history of the Ragusa region over the centuries followed by an interesting tour of the upper & lower parts of the city.

  • 5Worth every cent

We had a 3 1/2 hour walking tour with Serena Pizzo. She was fantastic. Her knowledge of everything Ragusa brought the experience alive. There was no question we could ask that she couldn’t answer. It was expensive but worth every cent. After this I felt one with Ragusa.

  • 5Excellent tour!

Serena was the best! She was an excellent tour guide who was very informative...and patient with us (and the rainy weather)—two American tourists who had no knowledge of the Ragusa area and its extensive baroque history. Ragusa is spectacular, but we would not have appreciated any of the history, architecture, and culture had it not been for Serena. We were in Sicily for three weeks, did lots of tours in multiple cities, but everyone was a distant second to Serena.

About Ragusa

Ragusa, in south-eastern Sicily, is a Baroque hill city in two halves, an upper town and the old quarter of Ibla, among stone-walled farmland.

Ragusa stands on a limestone plateau of the Hyblaean Mountains in south-eastern Sicily, cut by deep valleys, and is split into two parts: the modern upper town and Ragusa Ibla, the old quarter on a spur below. After an earthquake in 1693 flattened the area, Ibla was rebuilt in the Baroque style, and with other towns of the Val di Noto it is listed by UNESCO.

Top-ranked sights in Ragusa: Church of San Giuseppe (Chiesa di San Giuseppe), Scicli, Donnafugata Castle (Castello di Donnafugata).
