Experience the best of Seogwipo

Seogwipo lies on the south coast of Jeju, a volcanic island off the southern tip of the Korean peninsula, where Mount Halla, South Korea's highest peak at 1,947 metres, rises over the island's centre. The city is built around a small harbour on a mild, green coast, with a covered market at Maeil Olle and a street named for the painter Lee Jung-seob, who lived here in the 1950s. Fishing boats and the haenyeo, women divers who gather seafood without air tanks, are part of local life.

Jeongbang Waterfall falls straight into the sea, and Cheonjiyeon Falls sits among subtropical trees nearby. Jusangjeolli cliff has hexagonal basalt columns formed by cooling lava, and Oedolgae is a sea stack standing alone off the coast. On the east side, the Seongsan Ilchulbong crater, a tuff cone rising from the sea, is a World Heritage site, and the Jeju Olle walking trails follow the coastline.

Black pork barbecue, grilled hairtail and abalone porridge are Jeju specialities, and the island's tangerines, grown in orchards across the south, fill the shops in winter. Yellow canola flowers colour the spring, and the tangerine harvest ripens in late autumn.
