Experience the best of Momi

Momi, often called Momi Bay, lies on the south-western coast of Viti Levu, Fiji's main island, south-west of Nadi and its airport. The shore is low and sheltered, backed by grassy hills. On a headland stand the Momi Guns, gun emplacements from the Second World War built to guard the coast, with views across the water.

Offshore, the reef is broken by passages, and the surf breaks of this coast, including Cloudbreak off the island of Tavarua, are known to surfers around the world. The Mamanuca islands, including Malolo, lie farther out across blue lagoon water, and boats cross to them from Denarau. Back on land, Nadi has a large Hindu temple, the Garden of the Sleeping Giant, and the mud pools and hot springs of Sabeto.

Kokoda, raw fish soaked in lime juice and coconut milk, is a Fijian staple, alongside lovo feasts cooked in an earth oven and root crops such as cassava and taro. Indo-Fijian curries and roti are everywhere, and kava, drunk from a coconut shell, marks welcomes and gatherings. The cooler, drier half of the year runs from May to October; the rest is hot, humid and wet.
