About Sousse
Sousse is a Tunisian port and beach resort on the Gulf of Hammamet, with a walled medina and ribat on the water and Roman mosaics in its museum.
Sousse's medina, a World Heritage Site, is a walled maze of lanes, shops and old houses rising from the harbour. The ribat, a fortress-monastery of the eighth century, has a watchtower with views over the roofs and the sea, and the Great Mosque, dating from the ninth century, is a plain stone building around a courtyard. Phoenicians founded a port called Hadrumetum here, which later flourished under Rome.
