Experience the best of Hammamet
Hammamet is a Tunisian beach resort on a gulf of the same name, with a walled medina and kasbah on the sea, white sand and jasmine-scented gardens.

Hammamet sits on the Gulf of Hammamet on the east coast of Tunisia, at the base of the Cap Bon peninsula. Its walled medina, with whitewashed lanes and a kasbah dating from the fifteenth century, stands right on the sea, and long beaches of fine sand stretch away on both sides. Yasmine Hammamet, a newer resort district with a marina, lies to the south.
The Villa Sebastian, built in the 1920s by a Romanian millionaire and now a cultural centre, was a haunt of writers and artists, and the painter Paul Klee visited Hammamet in 1914 on a trip that changed his use of colour. Nabeul, a pottery town, is a short drive north, the Roman ruins of Pupput lie on the edge of town, and on Cap Bon the Punic town of Kerkouane is a World Heritage Site. Tunis and Carthage are about an hour away.
Jasmine is the flower of the town, sold in small bunches, and Cap Bon is a land of orange and lemon groves whose blossom is distilled into fragrant water. Brik, a fried pastry with egg, couscous with fish and grilled sea bream appear in beachfront restaurants, and makroud, a date-filled semolina pastry, is a favourite. Spring and early autumn are warm and calm.
