5Great tour, great guide
Hans was our tour guide and driver. He talked during the ride about the orangutan and the park, so we had a good idea what to expect. We took the electric trolley to the exhibition, where we saw short videos and the skeleton of Hot Mama. Even that feeding time was approaching and I would normally feel anxious not to miss out, Hans stayed calm and explained that there was no need to rush. When we walked there, the park ranger just started his talk and soon the first orangutan arrived. In different locations we saw four orangutans - in the feeding area, trees and close to the ground. The last one very close by. These were all magic moments, and not even the inevitable loud Chinese tourists could ruin it. We took all our time to go back. No rushing, super relaxed. With Hans you’re in the best hands 😊. He speaks very good English, is patient, and always around in the background to point you in the right direction. He is also very respectful about the animals and the park. Truly an ambassador for Sarawak!
5Great orang-utan experience
Our guide Fikri was brilliant. Lucky enough to have had 2 separate encounters with the orang-utans Lots of memorable photos & videos
5Orangutan Feeding Time
Picked up from hotel, taken straight to the Centre. Richard our guide was great, explained how/when the centre was founded, how many Orangutan's were there, several of their names and ages. We got there in time for feeding - and although we were told not to get our hopes up, that sometimes they don't come out - a big fella came down to feed! He sat there for quite some time. Fantastic experience
1You can see many orangutans but on pictures only
I went there with a friend of mine. To be brutally honest, it has been one of the most disappointing experiences we have ever lived as travellers. Getting to Semenggoh wildlife centre was pointless and a real waste of time. When we arrived at the entrance we were clearly told we wouldn't have seen any orangutan. They also pointed out they hadn't been seen for nearly two months. After hearing that, we didn't know what to do...whether to pay the ticket and enter or go back to Kuching. Since the price ticket was cheap, we decided to give it a try. From the entrance to the feeding platform, it takes around 15 minutes on foot. Along the way we could see on both sides of the street many orangutans. Yup...many orangutans...but only on big pictures. Once we arrived at the feeding platform we met other tourists. We talked with a ranger. He confirmed what we were told at the entrance...there was no chance for us to see orangutans. It made it clear orangutans can find all the food they need in the jungle. Why should they show up on the feeding platform? Just to please visitors? No way! To cut it short, after waiting for more than one hour, we had no choice but to go back and leave the park. In my humble opinion, the park should be kept closed. It should be open only if there is a concrete chance to admire orangutans in their natural habitat. I hope this review can help other tripadvisor members to be aware of the risks of going there.
1Magunatip holidays take money keep away from booking with this company
The tour operator edwin from magunatip holidays turned up at the allotted time and decided to cancel the trip at the last moment due to no sightings of orangutans within the last 53 days He was not helpful and suggested a alternative excursion that was not of value of what I had already paid Due to not been given 24hrs notice of this cancellation on their behalf I am unable to receive a refund Stay away from this company and only book from where you are staying as they obviously must do this often
1No orangutans now
No orangutans to see now since trees are fruiting (though it is not fruiting season). They don’t need to vine to the platforms to be fed. At entrance they told us don’t bother getting a ticket. Wish they put this info on the website.

About Kuching
Kuching, capital of Sarawak on Borneo, is a river city of colonial buildings, Chinese temples and nearby rainforest with orangutans.
Kuching stretches along the Sarawak River in the north-west of Borneo, with a waterfront promenade between old colonial buildings. The Brooke family, the White Rajahs, ruled Sarawak from here for a century, and their legacy survives in Fort Margherita, the Astana across the river and the Old Courthouse. The shophouses of the old Chinese quarter and the Tua Pek Kong temple show the other side of the city's heritage.
