Highlights

Poike is one of the most remote and least visited parts of Easter Island, far from the usual sightseeing routes. This private hike combines spectacular panoramic views with archaeological sites that are found nowhere else on the island. Along the way, discover Vai a Heva, an extraordinary face carved into the rock; rare moai carved from hard trachyte stone rather than the volcanic tuff used for most statues; and the dramatic Ana o Keke cave, hidden high in the cliffs and connected with ancient Rapa Nui traditions. From the summit of Poike, enjoy sweeping views across almost the entire island, all the way toward Rano Kau on the opposite coast. With a local guide bringing the legends, archaeology and landscape to life, this is an opportunity to experience a wild and little-visited side of Rapa Nui that most travelers never see.

About Hanga Roa

Hanga Roa is the only town on Easter Island, Chile's remote Pacific outpost, with a small harbour and giant stone moai within walking distance.

Hanga Roa stretches along the west coast of Easter Island, called Rapa Nui by its people, some 3,500 km west of the Chilean coast. Nearly all the island's residents live here, in low houses among gardens, around a small fishing harbour and a church. A short walk north, the moai of Tahai stand on a platform beside the sea, facing inland, and the sun sets behind them.
