Itinerary

  1. The most perfectly fit rock wall, Ahu Tahira, is found in this area. It was engineered with such skill that many draw conclusions on contact with the Inca Empire.

    30 min

  2. Hanga Poukura: Close to Vinapu we have the area of Hanga Poukura. This is a beautiful coastal area of interesting, rough lava rock formations has several unique features. Several statues are in a strange and mysterious manner buried in a line, with only the backs being visible. The ahu is one of the most well-made ever with blocks that are cut for a better fit. Hanga Poukura area also has an amazing natural phenomena that has been occurring constantly since this these areas were created by lava flows almost a million years ago - a blowhole. The blowhole of Hanga Poukura is one of the best ones of Rapa Nui, and when the ocean is right, water will spurt up into the air as waves come in.

    30 min

  3. This area has a replica of an ancient village built up in modern times. We will be able to see examples of how ancient plantation techniques work, and we will have the opportunity to enter replicas of the ancient "boat houses" that were used hundreds of years ago.

    30 min

  4. This was one of the biggest village in ancient times. Here we can see many well-preserved foundations for houses, a cave and a big ahu platform with many fallen statues. Legends say that the great king Hotu Matu'a, who led the colonization of this island, was buried here a thousand years ago.

    40 min

  5. The volcano that was converted into a mass production factory of gigantic megaliths. Virtually all statues were carved here. One day the workers stopped, and the hundreds of statues that were left behind haven't moved since.

    1.7 h

  6. The biggest and most impressive monument of Rapa Nui with its 15 mighty moais.

  • 5Top guide for Easter Island - Online-friendly bookings

Marcus gave us the best tour ever! We started at dawn at Tongariki and he then took us to all the major sites of the island, ending at Orongo. Marcus has a deep knowledge of the history and legends of the island, but he also gave us an insight into modern life. He even speaks Rapanui, which shows his commitment to the place and its culture. He is flexible, don't be afraid to ask for a quote with additions or tour combinations. Finally, he does everything online, which we found especially useful. I recommend without any reservations.

  • 5The best way to experience Easter Island

I am so fortunate to have discovered Easter Island Travel! I did 3 tours with them and cannot be happier. Marcus, the owner of the company, promptly answered all my e-mails and questions, and gave useful suggestions on which tours to take to experience the island fully. My guide for all 3 tours was Angelo; he knows so much about the history of Rapa Nui, grove the vehicle safely and made the tours truly worthwhile. Angelo loves his island and shared a lot of his life there, which made me appreciate this magical place even more. If you are looking for your travel agency, Easter Island Travel should be your choice, you will nor regret it! Thank you for unforgettable experiences!

  • 5The go-to guide for all of Easter Island

We did a full-day tour with Marcus, going to the main sites in south-west (Oronko etc), centre (Puna Pau, Akivi) and south (Tongariki, Rano Kau). Marcus is an excellent guide with deep knowledge of the island’s history as well as its present day. He was very flexible about the arrangement, which we appreciated as we had limited time on the island and wanted to make the most of it. I wholeheartedly recommend.

About Hanga Roa

Hanga Roa is the only town on Easter Island, Chile's remote Pacific outpost, with a small harbour and giant stone moai within walking distance.

Hanga Roa stretches along the west coast of Easter Island, called Rapa Nui by its people, some 3,500 km west of the Chilean coast. Nearly all the island's residents live here, in low houses among gardens, around a small fishing harbour and a church. A short walk north, the moai of Tahai stand on a platform beside the sea, facing inland, and the sun sets behind them.
