About Liège
Liège is a Walloon city on the River Meuse, with a hillside staircase, a glass-and-steel Calatrava station, a famous waffle and a Sunday riverside market.
Liège spreads along the Meuse where the Ourthe joins it, in the French-speaking east of Belgium. For centuries it was ruled by prince-bishops, and their palace still stands beside Place Saint-Lambert. The Montagne de Bueren, a staircase of 374 steps, climbs steeply from the old centre towards the citadel. The Grand Curtius, a museum of glass, weapons, art and archaeology, fills a seventeenth-century mansion on the river.
