Experience the best of Ubud
Ubud is Bali's cultural heart, a town of temples, craft villages and dance set among rice terraces and river gorges in the island's green uplands.

The town centres on the Ubud Palace and the busy market opposite, with traditional dance performed in temple courtyards in the evenings. Saraswati Temple's lotus ponds sit just off the main road, and the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary shelters long-tailed macaques among moss-covered shrines and giant banyan trees.
Beyond the centre, the Tegallalang rice terraces cascade down a valley in emerald steps, and the Campuhan Ridge Walk follows a grassy spine between two rivers. Tirta Empul's holy spring draws worshippers to its bathing pools, the carved cave of Goa Gajah is about a thousand years old, and villages such as Mas, Celuk and Batuan specialise in woodcarving, silverwork and painting. Mount Batur rises to the north for sunrise hikes.
Ubud is known for yoga, wholesome cafés and spas, alongside Balinese dishes such as babi guling, bebek betutu and nasi campur. The dry season, roughly April to October, is the most popular, and every 210 days the Galungan festival lines village streets with tall, arching bamboo poles called penjor. Mornings are the coolest and calmest time to explore.
