Experience the best of Tel Aviv
Tel Aviv is Israel's Mediterranean city of white Bauhaus buildings, long beaches, street markets and a café-lined seafront beside ancient Jaffa.

Tel Aviv was founded in 1909 on sand dunes north of the old port of Jaffa and grew quickly into a city of modernist apartment blocks. Its White City, a large collection of Bauhaus and International Style buildings, is listed by UNESCO. Rothschild Boulevard is lined with these buildings and shaded by trees, and Independence Hall, where the state was declared in 1948, stands on it.
A long promenade runs beside the beaches, and the Carmel Market, the Neve Tzedek quarter and the Tel Aviv Museum of Art make up much of the centre. To the south, Old Jaffa has stone alleys, a clock tower, an artists' quarter and a flea market around a port that has been used for thousands of years. Caesarea's Roman ruins lie to the north, and Jerusalem is about an hour away by road.
Hummus with warm pitta, sabich (an aubergine and egg pitta sandwich), shakshuka and fresh juices are the everyday food, and the Carmel and Levinsky markets sell spices, olives and pastries. Dizengoff Street, a main avenue of the White City, is lined with cafés. The beach season stretches far into autumn.
