Experience the best of Herzliya

Herzliya stretches along a low sandstone ridge above the Mediterranean, just north of Tel Aviv. It was founded in the 1920s and named after Theodor Herzl, the writer who founded modern political Zionism. The city has a wide sandy shoreline and a yacht marina, and in the district of Herzliya Pituah rows of villas and hotels face the sea.

On a cliff above the sea stands the small Sidna Ali mosque, and close by Apollonia National Park preserves the ruins of a Crusader fortress above a rocky shore, on a site settled since ancient times. Caesarea, with its Roman and Crusader remains, lies further up the coast, and Tel Aviv's old port of Jaffa, its markets and its museums are a short journey south.

Fish restaurants line the marina, serving grilled sea bream and sea bass beside plates of hummus, salads and fresh bread, and cafés fill the streets back from the beach. The Mediterranean climate brings hot, humid summers and mild, wet winters, and the beaches stay in use from late spring into autumn.
