Tanjung Benoa is a thin peninsula that points north from Nusa Dua, on the south-east side of Bali. A single road runs along its length, lined with small hotels, restaurants and dive shops, and a calm beach lies on the eastern side. At the northern tip a fishing village survives, with traditional outrigger boats drawn up beside the water.

The beach is one of Bali's main strips for water sports, with jet skis, parasailing, banana boats and sea walking on offer, while divers and snorkellers head to reefs offshore. Boats make day trips to Serangan, known as Turtle Island for its turtle conservation centre, and across the strait to Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan. Nusa Dua, with its landscaped beaches and resorts, lies at the base of the peninsula.

Grilled seafood is served at beachside restaurants along the peninsula, and small warung serve nasi goreng, fried rice, and sate, grilled skewers with peanut sauce. Balinese cooking leans on turmeric, lemongrass and chilli. The dry season, from April to October, brings the sunniest weather.
