Experience the best of Otopeni

Otopeni lies on the plain in Ilfov County, a short distance north of Bucharest, and is best known as the site of Henri Coandă International Airport, Romania's main airport. The town itself is mostly residential and commercial, set between the city and the lakes and forests to the north. Bucharest's centre, with the Palace of the Parliament and the Old Town, is a short drive south.

North of Otopeni lies Snagov, a long forest lake with a small island monastery where, according to tradition, Vlad the Impaler is buried. The Mogoșoaia Palace, a brick and stone residence from 1702 in the Brâncoveanu style, stands among lakeside gardens to the west. The Village Museum in Bucharest's Herăstrău Park displays traditional houses and churches brought from across the country.

Romanian dishes include mici, grilled skinless sausages eaten with mustard, sarmale, cabbage rolls served with polenta, and ciorbă, a sour soup, with papanași, fried doughnuts with sour cream and jam, for dessert, and plum brandy called țuică. Spring and early autumn are mild; summers are hot and winters cold.
