The area was planned as a self-contained resort zone, and its beaches are lined with gardens, wide paths and large hotels. The sand is white and the water protected by an offshore reef, making this one of the calmest stretches for swimming on the island and a favourite with families.

A beachfront walkway links the bays, and at Water Blow the waves crash dramatically through crevices in the rock. Watersports centre on Tanjung Benoa to the north, with snorkelling, parasailing and jet skis, and the Puja Mandala complex sets places of worship for five faiths side by side. A small museum of Asian and Pacific art adds a quieter cultural stop.

The clifftop temple of Uluwatu, the surf breaks of the Bukit and the seafood grills of Jimbaran Bay are a short drive away. Dining ranges from hotel restaurants to warungs serving Balinese dishes. Sunshine is most reliable from about April to October, while the wet season brings short tropical downpours and lush greenery.
