Experience the best of Amman
Amman, Jordan's capital, spreads across a series of hills, with Roman ruins, crowded downtown souks and a warm welcome at the start of any Jordan journey.

The Amman Citadel crowns Jabal al-Qal'a with the Temple of Hercules, the Umayyad Palace and sweeping views over the city. Below, the Roman Theatre, carved into the hillside, seats thousands, and the downtown souks around the Grand Husseini Mosque sell spices, gold and sweets, with the scent of coffee and cardamom in the air.
Rainbow Street in Jabal Amman is lined with cafés, galleries and rooftop terraces, and the Jordan Museum displays fragments of the Dead Sea Scrolls and the ancient plaster statues of Ain Ghazal. The blue-domed King Abdullah I Mosque welcomes visitors, and the leafy hillside of Jabal al-Weibdeh is home to the city's art scene.
Downtown, people queue for falafel, hummus and warm, syrupy knafeh, while mansaf, lamb in a yoghurt sauce, is served at family feasts. In spring the hills turn green and the black iris, Jordan's national flower, blooms nearby, while summer is hot and dry. Amman is the natural base for the Roman city of Jerash, the Dead Sea, Petra and the desert of Wadi Rum.
