  • 5Kiernan is Knowledgeable and Thoughtful About History's Impacts on Today's World Situation

Kieran is very knowledgeable about the history of Ireland in general, and in particular its long struggle for independence. He presents the story of Ireland's struggles for independence in a away that encourages listeners to think about the root causes and effects of English oppression over the centuries. He has a very interesting hypothesis on how the world might have turned out differently today if a few things had occurred differently in 1916. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our discussions with Kiernan on his presentation of history and its impacts today. He loves Ireland with a passion not often encountered and he is optimistic about Ireland's future on the question of unification.

  • 4We learned a lot!

Our guide was an absolute encyclopedia! Informative, and well worth the time spent with him. The only issue was he wasn’t there for our 9 AM scheduled time, but he was able to meet us a couple hours later. It ended up being fine as we used that time to visit the little Titanic museum, which was quite good.

  • 5Keiran's stories make all the difference!

We booked this tour less than 48 hours before our cruise ship docked in Cobh. We had originally planned to take an independent tour to Blarney Castle by train and bus, but the operator canceled without much notice, so we looked for an interesting alternative. The best walking tours we've taken in our global travels have been where the guide makes the history come alive through stories. Keiran, who personally leads every tour, did exactly that. It's so much more interesting than just a factual recap of who did what, when, and where. As our group turned out to be just my wife and me, it surprisingly end up being a private tour. We learned about the Irish people and their struggles to gain independence in the context of world affairs, and how those folks worked with Americans, Brits, Germans, and others over time. Keiran gave us the personal perspectives of various stakeholders throughout history. That really helped us understand why different parties did what they did. Keiran told each story with interest and enthusiasm, and encouraged us to think about what we would have done back then. There are some short uphill walks, but plenty of stops to sit and engage in the stories.

  • 3Lots of climbing. Cobh is full of hills

Lots of stairs and hills. Would not recommend to anyone with mobility issues. Touched on a number of political issues which made us uncomfortable. We left the tour early due to the difficult walk.

  • 5Very interesting tour

Kieran brought the history of the troubles to life. He framed all from the Irish experience. Many of his insights were new to us.
